Frequently asked questions.
You have questions, we have answers.
Every year, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (and the City of Houston) requires all eligible elevators, escalators, and related equipment to be inspected by a third-party inspector. Once inspection reports and permit fees are received, TDLR (or the City of Houston) will issue the operating permit to the building owner. Click here for more information on this process.
Category 1 (annual) elevator inspections require one elevator inspector to witness the test and at least one elevator mechanic to perform the test. ETS will coordinate the inspection with your elevator maintenance company and our inspector will meet your elevator maintenance company’s mechanic to witness and perform the test.
The State of Texas Health and Safety Code, Title 9, Chapter 754.019(1) states that it is the building owner’s responsibility to have their elevator inspected by a third-party inspector.
